Refined Carrageenan Carrageenan(also called carrageenan gum) is a kind of natural polysaccharide hydrophilic gum extracted from the red seaweed of the sea plant. It is usually in the form of white or a bit yellow powder, free of smell or taste. Carrageenan gel is heat reversible. Carrageenan can melt into solution after being heated, and the solution can coagulate into gel after being cooled. Carrageenan has good water-solubility. It begins to melt at 70°C and completely melts at 80°C. It also has admirable stability, in addition, it may not reduce the intensity and viscosity in long-term placement. It does not hydrolyze in neutral and alkaline solution, even being heated. When carrageenan is used in with konjac gum, locust bean gum and xanthan gum, it obviously functions as strong as coordinator and reinforcer, as well as distinctly altering the gel characteristics and making the gel elastic and water-holding. Carrageenan is extensively applied in food, medicine, chemical industry for daily supplies, biological chemistry, building paints, textile printing, agriculture and other fields. In food industry, it can be used as gelling agent, stabilizing agent, floating agent and clarifying agent, and it also can be used in products as soft candy, jelly, ham sausage, meat can, ice cream, beverage, condiment, milk, bionic food, jam, cake, beer, bread, pet food and so on. In pharmaceutical industry, it can be used as floating agent and dispersing agent, and also can be used to produce capsule products. In chemical industry for daily supplies, it can be used in toothpaste, detergent, cosmetics and air freshener. In biological chemistry, it can be used as carrier of microorganism and fixed cell. In other fields, it can be used as the thickening agent for water-based paint, ceramic glaze material and water color, the floating agent for black lead, the sizing material for textile products and paper, and the floating agent for herbicide and pesticide, etc. Our company focuses on applications of Kappa carrageenan in food industry. We choicely use well quality seaweed from the Philippines and Indonesia, and adopt a method of pressing the precipitate produced by reaction of seaweed with potassium chloride, to extract carrageenan which is universally used in the industry. The quality completely accords with the standards of Food and Agriculture Oganization JECFA and European Union E407.At present, Our major products, Kappa refined carrageenan which features high purity, strong intensity, little beeding, strong stability and total plate count below 5000 cfu/g. Meanwhile, our products are widely recognized by the domestic and international market. Method of test Viscosity: 1.5% aqueous solution at 75, use the NDJ-1 Viscometer (made in Shanghai Scale Instrument Factory), No.1 Spindle, 30 r/min. 2. Method of testGel strength: Prepare 1.5% solution of Refined carrageenan and add 0.2% of KCL, heat it until boiling. Then put it into a cup of 5cm×3cm and cool it down at 10 for more than 4 hours for jellifying it for measurement. Thegel strength tester is made by Sea Academe of Chinese Academy of Sciences.
